Description:

We are seeking up to a Lead Field Technician to lead a few students on a pollinator project to track honeybees to their nests and hives.

Duties will include:

  • Managing student workers in field work.
  • Managing supplies and schedules for field work.
  • Reporting to Dr. Wells on project updates and activities.
  • Driving an SUU vehicle to and from research sites.
  • Assisting with trapping and following bees.
  • Nest-searching and monitoring.
  • Familiarity with basic GIS technology.

Note: This position will entail working outdoors in all kinds of weather, walking variable distances, and driving on backcountry roads (transportation will be provided).

Qualifications:

  • Experience in insect and plant collection and identification.
  • Horticulture experience.
  • Preference will be given to students who have taken BIOL 3435 (Entomology).
  • Preference will be given to applicants with experience in ecological field methods.

The start date is April 28, 2025, and assistants will be required to work Saturdays during the spring semester, and other hours during the week as able/willing for up to 20 hours per week.
